Understanding local levels of tree canopy cover and how you can help build a UK canopy map ward by ward
To help understand current levels of tree cover across the UK Forest Research (Government’s forestry and tree experts) are enabling volunteers to build a map of the distribution of tree canopy cover* in towns and cities across the UK, in partnership with Trees for Cities Brillianto and the Woodland Trust.

This project uses a free, online tool called i-Tree Canopy, which provides a scientifically robust and consistent approach to estimating canopy cover. It’s a quick and easy approach, allowing a canopy cover assessment to be completed for a council ward in around 45 minutes.

To explain how i-Tree Canopy works we’re hosting a joint webinar with canopy cover mapping experts Treeconomics on Tuesday 30th November at 7pm where we will demonstrate the I-Tree system and explain how you can use it to assess levels of tree canopy cover in your area.
